The side of it says 2500cm3 and that is just around 2.6 quarts. Is that like the bare minimum. Does that fill up the oil filter. Will that show right in the middle of the sight glass. Thanks

your oil sight only works on the center stand not on the side stand. Are you on the center stand?
there are 2 specs one for just an oil change and 1 for filter oil change.
it will show between the lines of the sight glass.
with filter change you loose the oil in the filter housing plus the oil that the filter soaked up.
fill it with the 2.6 quarts if you changed the filter 2.6 qts is a conversion of liters

when I do a full change after running for a few miles,I let it sit for 10 minites. I check again and find I have to add 1 or 2 ounces, but only 1 oz at a time.
It may take a while for the oil to settle depending how cold your oil and motor is.
I have a tiny measuring cup that does 2 oz.
as long as you see a bubble at the top of the sight glass you are ok if not you may be over filling.
what you see depends on how much of the oil you actualy got out.
    what are you seeing ?

how do you measure 2.6 quarts? do not count on the container to be all that accurate.
I remove oil from container into larger measuring cup to remove that .4 qt.
    1/2 quart is 16 oz (2 cups) .4 quart is 12.8 oz .
do we really get ALL the oil out of the container?

2.5qts is enough to do the initial run after a change. Most of us don't drop the middle gear plug which leaves a little bit of the old oil in the mill (one of the reasons fresh oil looks dark quick).

The spec on the clutch cover is the sump capacity only. Fill it with that, go for a ride, and top it off after it's sat on the center stand for 5 minutes or so.

Here's a neat "trick": you have a sight glass. As long as you pay attention to the oil level as you fill the sump, you won't overfill it.
