I've been fine tuning my '85 XJ700 the last few days and I've noticed several little rubber wedges between the engine's cooling fins. Are those stock? What are they for?

Those are stock.....they make your cooling fins not break off so easily, and they distribute an even force over all the fins if they're positioned correctly.

I was just going to ask the very same question.
    Thanks for answering it Nick.
I noticed that they are not located in the same spots on each side of the engine. There were also some on the inside fins by the 2 and 3 sparkplugs. I removed those ones as I figured all they did was impede the flow of air to cool the motor. I did leave the outside ones in place though, thinking they were probably there for a reason.

They're anti-vibration wedges -- as Nick said - they're there to help stop your fins from breaking off.
