So my 85 XJ700 has this clear coat covering all the aluminum (?) on the engine and some other parts. It has lost the glory of it's youth. What if I remove this clear coat down to very nice brushed aluminum and keep it waxed. Is there any reason not to do this? Any other options?
PS You guys have been great and got me through some rough moments. I thank you for that. Here's a photo dedicated to you good people.

go to your auto parts store and look for "aircraft stripper". (http://www.walmart.com/ip/17203456?wmls ... 90&veh=sem)

Put it on nice + thick and watch that yellow clearcoat melt off. after about 15 minutes scrape it off. then go to town with your buffing wheel.

WARNING. this stuff is nasty. wear long sleeves/pants/gloves (not latex/nitrile either). I got a large glob on my bare skin, and ended up in my neighbor's pool and in severe pain in about a minute. Got some NASTY chemical burns from it too. I got some gloves specifically for handling corrosive chemicals.

I soda blasted the yellowed clear coat off my motor parts. It came off really nice.
