:D I have a 1981 Maxum and I am using air pods instead of the original air box. I have noticed that after a 2 or 3 mile ride that a good deal of smoke is coming out of the crankcase breather. I have a K&N filter on the breather. I notice it when I am idling. Oh and it's about 110 in the shade here where I live.
Is this normal or is it a sign that my rings are going bad?

Do a compression test to determine the state of your rings.

Some crankase ventilation output IS normal.

How much "output" is considered normal is hard to say, since on a bike with the airbox still on it you'll never see it.
