Anybody have a cross referance chart or something simular? I am looking for a few parts and would like to know what year and cc range will work. For example I have an '82 XJ650 that needs a seat and gas tank. What years and cc's have the same parts?

The XJCD has a cross reference as well. $10 is money well spent.

I sent the check out for the XJCD this afternoon. I have a possible seat and tank and I was hoping to find out sooner. I will check the bikebandit.com site and see what I can find.

All 1980-83 XJ650 Maxim/Midnight Maxim seats are the same (the 650 MM seat is actually different in style/appearance, but uses the same seat pan). All other XJ models use different seats/different seat pans, and it's the pan that determines whether the seat will fit your bike without having to go through lengthy, tedious modifications to the seat pan, the bike frame, or both.

1980-83 XJ650 Maxim and Midnight Maxim tanks are all the same. The tanks from a 1982 XJ650RJ Seca will fit, as will all XJ750 tanks. However, in my opinion, any of the 650 or 750 "Seca" style tanks do not look very well on a Maxim model.....they leave the bike looking
"unfinished" without the benefit of the bigger, "form-fitted" side covers that the Seca models use.

Thanks Chacal, so I take it that the 550's will not work for either tank or seat. Is that correct?

Correct, they will NOT work (without a significant amount of mods or....read on).

The 550 tanks could probably be modified, as they are actually LONGER than the 650/750 tanks in the spacing between the front and rear mounting points......meaning that the rear tank mounting point (the big oval hole on the rear, flat cross-brace) will be almost a full inch further BACK on a 650/750 frame than on a 550 frame....and thus no bushing to fit in there, no bolt to hold it down, etc.........

(why does that last statement above remind me of the old song "no sugar tonight in my coffee, no sugar tonight in my tea.......hmmm, battle fatigue, perhaps??)

The 550 seat pans are designed to open via flopping over to one side, they use something akin to interior door hinges to allow the seat to flip open, rather than the rear double-latch style system on the 650's.
