As I do not yet have a XJCD, I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me if the seat and front fender off of a 1981 XJ 550 Maxim would fit on a 1982 XJ 650 Maxim? There are some on e-bay, but i want to make sure they fit before I bid...

    Thanks!

Hi Gremlin, unfortunately the info that you are looking for is not on the XJCD, since even the most minor changes in, for example, the pattern of the seat cover, will result in two different factory part numbers, and thus it won't appear as a cross-ref part on the XJCD. What you really want is interchange info, which unfortunately isn't on the XJCD (wish it was!) and can only be had from the minds of those Who Have Been There Before.

BTW, I have a really nice '82 XJ650J (Maxim) fender on eBay right now, great chrome, no dents or rust, etc. See eBay #230059610154.

But, for what it's worth, I do think that all '80-84 650 MAXIM ONLY seats will physically interchange.....but each year (I think) has a slightly different pattern to the seat cover.

Cool I suppose that makes sense about the cross-ref... I'm not really concerned about the pattern, just that I don't fly off at 60Mph! Any concern that the "doner" bike is a 550 vs mine ( a 650 ) as far as the seat is concerned?

Thanks chacal. I'll definately be watching your fennder post.

I don't think that the 550 seat will fit, at all. I don't think any seat will really fit besides a 650 Maxim seat....the gas tank design, the seat latch method and position, and the front lock-down design differs pretty much between Yamaha's. But hopefully someone with more knowledge will chip in and share more info. I've tried a 750 Maxim seat and found that it won't fit on a 650 Maxim.
