    Fellow XJ'ers,

Having just entered the world of the XJ's I'm just starting to learn about the "fun" of adjusting carbs.

I was doing some research and it seams that for a motocross bike you can by an fuel mixture screw that has a knob on the top for easier adjustment. I really liked the idea and being an engineering student with access to a lot of machining things, I'm looking at creating something like the one shown in the picture for for XJs:

I guess What i'm getting at is, I know these OEM screws are not made anymore, you cannot buy them from yamaha(according to the local dealer) and I've found it slightly difficult to actually find one used. And With the ease of fuel mixture adjustment that would come with having these, and not having to stick a screwdriver down in that small space it could be really nice.

I'm in the design process now, and Mine will more than likely be made out of stainless steel, not the OEM brass. So what I'm looking for is input from other XJ'ers and an idea on how many of these i might want to produce if they do in fact work correctly.

Here's a part number for a pilot screw kit, which consists of the screw, spring, washer and oring. 5H2-W1494-00-00

Not sure if it's a good number anymore, but it's listed in the service technical bullitins on the XJCD.

Might run the number by your local dealer and see if he comes up with anything.

    Good luck

I'm up for two sets! I'm interested in making my carbs as bullet proof as possible. I haven't had to pull my air/fuel screws yet but after sitting for 2 years, I think it may be time since they have never been pulled out.

I like the Idea from a convienance point of view. I'd love to have a set in my four-wheeler, if you decide to build a few, of course.
What price range would be acceptable for your effort? sixty, maybe eighty bucks sound pretty reasonable? They look like about two hours on the lathe.
If you and I are the only ones to find these usefull, I would be willing to pay quite a bit more to cover your time and effort.

Design wise, it would be nice to have the quater turns marked out, like in the picture, not nessicarily numbered, but at least a line or marking of some type to help keep track of turns during tuning, not a problem by any means, I have drill bits. but it would be nice to have them pre-marked.
A low profile knob would also be usefull for my needs, but I understand that XJ's have enough clearance, and would not be a requirement for everyone else. I could always lob off a bit with the band saw if absolutely nessisary.

I really like the Idea. If you decide to go further with it, let me know.

I'm not so sure that the Pilot Screws aren't available. My guess is that the DEALERSHIP's don't deal with INVENTORY that old. MIKUNI is still in business ... and, has a parts ordering process ... with a wide variety of Jets for all their products ... still available.

You could run into Licensing issues. Asian Company's are tough.
