Ok, since I'm a newbie to the motorcycle world and especially to the older motorcycles, I'm probably going to drive every one insane with all my questions. Luckily none of you know where I live so as to come beat me up. :D

Now, to the question. I HATE my mirrors. They are the stock mirrors and not only are they nearly impossible to setup for a decent view, but they are FUGLY. So, I want to get an aftermarket set. However, I don't know the size of the threading that the mirror screws into. Anyone out there have aftermarket mirrors (like the ones that everybody and their dog is selling for harleys/choppers) on their bike. Or at least know if it's even possible to mount these beasts on my little toy?

    Thanks in advance,
    Beardking.

10mm from memory, BUT, beware when buying aftermarket that they are made for a Yamaha.

Yamaha in their infinite wisdom(way ahead of their time  ) are the only ones that I know of that have a left hand thread on the right mirror mount.

JC whitney sells these mirrors that fit our yamaha's. I have a set on mine. I got the extended stems on them so I could actually see past my shoulders. They work nicely. Not crome though. Look almost the same as the stockers.

Make sure that you get one that is left handed thread and one that is right handed. They are a 10 mm thread, but you need one of both thread types, if you look around on line you will find alot of aftermarket mirrors out there. I will dig up the web sites I found them on and post them for you, there are some nice sets out there. I have a set of chrome teardrops on my bike, beats the fugly ones that came stock, and got rid of the vibration noise too....

Yeah, those stockers are definitely the definition of fugly. Along with the stock turn signals (front and back) and stock handlebars. Hopefully by next spring I'll have my XJ modified enough to really like it. :) Of course, I'm the guy that has new parts put on his brand new guns 15 minutes after he buys them too. ;-)
