Hey, I have a 1982 XJ650lj Turbo engine in an offroader, running non turbo. It came with the oil cooler sandwich plate, but no lines or oil cooler. I made up some fittings and got a transmission oil cooler to fit to it, but was wondering if the 5mm (just under 1/4 inch) fittings were too small for it? It looks as though the sandwich plate has a pressure release valve in it, would this release the pressure and bypass the oil cooler if the cooler could not provide enough flow?

That'd work fine. The pressure valve is in case the cooler clogs it won't stop all oil flow entirely. And I'd suspect you'll flow more through that tranny cooler than the stock oil cooler from the bike did anyway - wouldn't worry too much about the size of the fittings.

Get a can of Cast Blast and pretty-up those exhaust pipes ... will ya?

Looks like that will go pretty good!

How come you don't paint it? I'd at least rattle something on there to match those fancy seat belts.

I think I'd be afraid to drive it. But,, I'd like to try!

More pics please !! Driveshaft-rear-rack-and overhead view if you can. I would add some triangulation to the open areas before paint.

Awesome will put oil cooler in today and get some more pics for ya. Were going to paint it with POR-15, which is about as permanent as paint gets so well paint it when everythings finished completely. As for triangulation were going to put small braces in the corners just to strenthen around the welds, but 42mm galv pipe with 4mm wall is never gonna bend. Yeah its good fun, 3rd gear wheel spin on gravel is more than enough to scare me :p Got a video somewhere of me dragging it against a 1.6L corolla. Smoked it.

Heres our Photobucket Album Quick question, since its a turbo engine it comes with a stronger clutch? Its slipping really bad in 1st and 2nd and was wondering if stronger springs would be enough. If not I have access to a CNC mill and might end up making a drag style lock up clutch.

I'd like to inquire if that has a reverse gear.

It definately sounds mean. I like it.
