    Hello,

I am trying to build a custom seat for my XJ650 seca and I was wondering if it is acceptable to drill 2 vertical holes in the cross bar part of the frame as seen in the picture? I want to drill the holes so that I have an easy mount for the seat but do not want to compromise the integrity of the frame.

I don't have regular access to a welder. I was thinking of using a bracket as another option. If I do drill, it would probably be 1/4" i think.

it should not be a problem considering if you were in any kind of impact that would cause failure you would have a lot more to worry about than the cross member failing.

Make sure to do something to prevent rust from starting inside of the frame tubes.

Don't know what you are using for a seat Pan but
u bolts facing down through the pan makes for an easy mount on that cross bar

Are you planning on sewing your own vinyl or leather? I'm planning to do my own seat as well and am wanting to know what thickness of leather is typically used as seat material? Any idea?

Any furniture grade leather or marine grade vinyl will work.the vinyl will last longer in the weather.
