Can someone please tell me if I have this diagram correct? I'm trying to understand which coil leads go to which spark plugs. My understanding is that the cylinder firing sequence is 1,2,4,3. Also that one coil is 1,4 and the other is 2,3.

Do I have something terribly wrong here? Much apreciated.

Cylinders 1&4 fire together from one coil and 2&3 from the other one. Are the wires not marked? And what xj do you have? Coil with orange wire for cyl 1&4

Ill check....but Cylinders are referred to as 1-4 left to right? Not by their fireing sequence 1,2,4,3?

Two of the four wires have numbers on them. 1 and 3 are labeled. 1 comes from the left coil, 3 from the right. so that would clarify exactly where everything should go if the left coil goes to the outside cylinders (1 on le far let, 4 on the far right).

so It would appear the correct configuration is show below (on second thought)?

This diagram is correct yes? (aside from spelling , never my strong suit)

    second drawing is correct.
this is a wasted spark ignition means cylinder 1 AND 4 fire then Cylinder 2 AND3 fire every time piston comes to top dead center( a little before but tdc is ok for this)
1 and 4 are at TDC at the same time. 2 and 3 are 180 degrees out so they are at borrom dead center.

1 and 4 fire with 1 on the top of compression stroke and 4 at the top of the exhaust stroke (then when 4 is at top of compression stroke) . the same thing happens when 2 and 3 are tdc.

with that info firing order becomes 1,4 then 2,3 .
best term for info you are looking for

    Power stroke order is:1-2-4-3

pay attention to this. Your coils may not be in the original position

    Sorry!! 84 FJ600

The crossing on the diagram is because of how the wires are numbered. The wire with the number 3 on it comes from the left side of the right coil.

Ahhh, interesting. Now I get it.

Thanks for the help gents!!! This was messing with me last night. All 4 are now firing after getting her wired up and finding a leak on the 4th cylinder.

However now getting some high revving with choke on. Throttle sticking at 2-3k for a few seconds after blipping. Have to look closer. Must be more air leak issues. Cable seems good and re-lubed it tonight.
