Here's the deal... I turned the key too far one night and left the tail lights on. I went out the next day to go to work and no luck. So... I threw the battery on my battery tender and the next day it still showed solid red. I tried it anyways and there was nothing... not even a hint of juice. This would be the third battery that has exhibited this same behavior this summer. I had thought that my previous batteries were killed because I tried to jump start my bike but this battery went straight from the bike to the charger. Any ideas, folks?

I've had a couple of batteries like that. Let them bottom out one time, and they're deader than a door knob. They came from Advance Auto...

Also keep in mind that most battery tenders won't turn on if the battery is completely dead. Tenders are meant to keep a reasonaly charged battery near 100%. You will need a regular charger (preferably no more than 2 amp) left on the battery for a while to bring it back, or better yet -- a charger that has a de-sulfating mode.

I've never used the Battery Tender brand, but my automatic maintainers will not charge a battery that is completely dead. I've got a cheap 1 amp charger that I use for very dead batteries.

Having said that, when they go completely dead the cells can short out.

Dead it is. I lost three batteries the first 2 weeks I owned my maxim due to the PO wiring a should be keyed hot to a constant hot. There was no reviving them. Since then I have put in three batt's in 14 years.
