    Hello,
Can anyone tell me what are the main differences between a XJ750 RJ built in the year 1981 versus one built in 1982?

I have an opportunity to buy a 1981 w/ 36K miles versus a 1982 w/ 56K miles. I plan on fully restoring the either bike but were there any significant improvements made in the "newer" 1982 bike to warrant buying it?
    Thanks for reading,
    AutumnRider

I'm not intimately familiar with the 750 line, but I'm confident the differences are minimal. Get the one that has the most potential/best price.

    BTW, 1981 is XJ750RH, 1982 is XJ750RJ

About the only real difference was the color of the paint!

    Thanks for your quick responses!

Now I need to consider the most potential/best price. :)

If I understand correctly the RH and RJ suffix on the 1981 and 1982 XJ750 bikes really makes no difference they only show possibly different production runs?
    Thanks,

The '81 has bare rims, polished forks, '82 has black paint rims, black forks.
The '81 has a cable driven tach, '82 - electric.

I would pick the one that cold-started the best, or had the best chrome, or less miles. If you want to get fancy, pull out your compression gauge and pick the best motor. Chrome is replace-able

Own both, no mechanical differences. Paint scheme is the only difference.
