I put round slide carbs on mine, but had to make intakes because I used 2 large carbs in place of the original 4. There has been talk of using a rack of carbs from a Suzuki, but I don't know how that worked out. The Yamaha carb racks have different spacing between carbs 2 and 3 than other bikes because of the cam timing chain.
All that being said, most any carb change will require some mods but can be done.

    O&B,
I'm just curious....when you went to round-slides, did you install the same size or go down?

Also, how does it run now, especially at very small throttle openings?

I was part of a team many years ago that did a bunch of experimentation between VM's and CV carbs so I'm interested in how your switch came out.

My original carbs 33CV Hitachi's had been replaced (by a shop that the PO had gone to) with 32CV Mikuni's . I bought 2 34VM Mikuni's, went through some trial and error with intakes, had a issue with throttle response at take off but got it worked out with exhaust mod. Was a pain to get straight but now its simple to clean, adjust and sync. Plus I only have 2 to deal with instead of 4.

Nice, I wouldn't have thought to go to two carbs.....but it makes sense since a VM equal of a 32CV would have been a 26 or 28mm.

    Thanks,
