I've been looking for a luggage rack for my Black Widow (a black and red Seca 750). They are hard to find - so I decided to make one myself.

It's make of 1/2 inch EMT ($2.07 for 10 feet at Home Depot). The biggest expense was a conduit bender for $35. I decided to weld the pieces together - my son has a Harbor Freight welder but neither of us wend so this was going to be a steep learning curve... lots 'f YouTube videos.

My 20 year old son likes to ride this bike and he does not like racks (not cool to have a rack) so I wanted to make it a quick release rack so he could easily remove it when he rides. I fashioned 2 rack holders from 3/4 inch EMT that will stay on the bike. The rack can be removed in about 10 seconds - takes slightly longer to put it back on.

The welds are pretty ugly but I think they will hold. And if the rack falls apart - not big deal... Since it's quick release, and since 1/2 EMT costs $2.07 for 10 feet, I'll just make a better one to replace the broken one. In fact, the one in these pictures is version 3 - the first 2 weren't good enough to paint. I found that my best friend is an angle grinder:
    Step 1: Weld something ugly
Step 2 Grind it down to see if it penetrated.
Step 3: go to Step 1.

If anybody out there has built their own rack, I'd love to see it.

Nice . I really like your red rims with black engine and tank.

My only criticism is the use of EMT. EMT is not structural, and is prone to stress fracturing after welding (even before welding really). Keep a good eye on it. If it falls apart while you're riding it could very well end up being a big deal for whoever is behind you.

    Hey Quebecois59,

I would love to see your plans and finished rack. I passed on 2 opportunities to buy a 900 this year because I couldn't find a rack for a 900.
