XJ750R (0U28) is endurance racer of XJ750. 0U28 was developed from 1982 as Yamaha's first 4 stroke factory racer, and challenged the Suzuka 8hour endurance race. In 1984, 0U28 got the 4th prize.

You can see 1984 machine in Yamaha communication plaza in Shizuoka (neighborhood of Yamaha head office). I went to there and took some pictures, I post it. It's really cool bike!

F caliper is Brembo 4pot. Beautiful wiring.

R caliper is mono-block. R wheel is BAYMAG.

The rear sprocket has been significantly reduced in weight. The chain is 530. It's chain drive!
This machine reversed the crank shaft and remodeled it into a chain drive.

    Carb is Keihin CR.

Tail lump is funny. I think it's a part of off-road machine.

    Rev limit is 10500rpm?

    Oil cooler is here.

That dash is an exercise in minimalism.

Also appreciate the safety wire on critical bolts (where I would use blue lock-tite on my vehicles).

Once you're over 200 kph it doesn't matter how fast you're going!

Yamaha communication plaza has so many machine, and all machine is able to run.
Yamaha hold old machine running event in Yamaha's test course once a year.
Yamaha Communication plaza is in Iwata, Shizuoka. Next to the Iwata city is Hamamatsu that the city of Suzuki head office. Hamamatsu is a hot city for riders because Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki were established here.

    Suzuki museum is nice too!

Great . . . now add "visit to Japan" on the bucket list.
It would be visiting the Mothership.

    Seriously sweet looking machines.

That first xj looks very familiar- swirly rim, yics engine, ect., but the second is a completely different animal! What the heck is going on with the front suspension?
And the Suzuki! I grew up watching Schwantz race against Wayne Rainey, good times! I used to be Rainey, my buddy was Schwantz, our bicycles were unstoppable!

What is all that front suspension structure on the 1983 XJ750R?

I see extra damping in there, plus the bottom looks to have another caliper mounted.
Thought the rear was pretty interesting. They have a mono-shock under the frame (near as I can tell). Low CG is good! I did notice the frame really informed what came next in the FZ600 and the like.

There is a thread around here somewhere, but it does not have as many detailed photos as you have provided. That era of racing went by far too quickly for my taste, but techincal progress was rapid at that time. The machine was fairly successful, but the platform was a bit late to the game. It did serve as a great learning tool for Yamaha though.

    EDIT

Found it: The Ultimate Chain Drive XJ Bike That does Exist!

There is a (stalled) chain-drive conversion project thread too.

My '82 XJ750 "Project Shadow Warrior"

The project itself didn't stall; just the chain conversion.

Anti-dive gizmo. Reg Pridmore and a few others experimented with a pivoting front brake caliper and a connected linkage that would push up on upper fork tubes under braking. It works, but was a bit sketchy in the wet if I recall correctly.
