Since I lost the compression been slowly doing my top end...

Everything had been going pretty smoothly couldnt see why I lost compression in one cyclinder, comp test was bad dry good wet assumed rings. Found this while cleaning...

This is the pic from the cylinder that lost compression

One of the others that compression was still good

I dont get how that side got chewed up like that with the cylinder walls, valves, and pistons not having any marks on them...

The guy helping me said we can carefully grind this smooth and continue is this true or should I be looking for a new head if I continue?

Unfortunately, I cannot make out the details on your photos. If there are cracks between the valves and/or sparkplug hole, you NEED to get them welded up. If it is just deformed metal, smoothing it out should work just fine. Just be sure to clean all traces of the grinding process away.
    Good luck!

Looks like damage from a previous owner/ Blown piston.
I would suspect the cylinders and piston was replaced and the old head was used.
I would smooth out the damage and see how it looks. If you are faced with doing a valve job anyway I might look at another head myself but if it cleans up Ok then use it.
