I can get a set of these tires on ebay for under 100 bucks. The sizes are the same as I have now but I am using kenda challengers.I am not sure of the speed ratings.Does anyone see a reason why I shouldn't get them.I am running a 100-90-19 k657 in the front and a 110-90-19 k657 in the rear. Here is the links for the ones on ebayWeb Page Name

There's ONLY 2 tires onna Bike.. this is NO place to be cheap.
Suggest a pair of Bridgestone BT45's in the OEM sizes.. you will not easily find a better tire. .. buy a pair.. and enjoy the confidence performance and safety they bring.

Actually by all hearsay.. Kendas are pretty good tires Much better than most of us (me included) will admitt... Likely a helluva lot better than the Dunslops :).. but there might be some buyer aprehension about Korean tires.. so ?

I have a 404 on the rear of my Maxim and am happy with it. I had a Kendra Challenger on before and didn't like it too much. Too slick in the rain. Wear was fair.

Another place that sells tires at a good price is here:

    http://www.mawonline.com/dunlop.htm#Tires%20street

Biggest problem with buying online is getting them mounted. If you can mount them, go fot it. If not, most shops will not mount tires they have not sold. Personally I would rather buy from mawonline since they stand behind their products. In other words you can return them where as the ebay seller may not be so compliant.

Love my Dunlops, no troubles with them. (Elite II 491's). Very long lived.

I run Dunlop D404 front and back. I like them. I've been told that these are the OEM replacement tires.

I used to run the Dunlop Elite II 491 on my Virago and I also like them.

Oooops silly Me :) I should have realised that most of these Bikes would have worn flat center rear tires yet with brand new edges.

I have 404's on my 82 750, there what my uncle had on it before, if you check dunlop's web site, these don't show up on the model list, but I havn't seen any problems with them. In talking to my Uncle, he said the last set he had ran around 8K on the rear before he had to put on my current set.

get some tire irons and lube and do it yourself. Its pretty easy, but it'll probably take a while your first time. After your first time though, you'll wonder why you pay the dealer 30 a tire to have them mounted

Tire mounting is a breeze. Have some patience and decent tools and you'll find something better to spend your money on...

I have a D404 on the rear of my 81 XJ650 and it seems to do just fine. I have put about 9k miles on it, and looks like I can get another 3-4k before it needs to be changed. I currently have a Dunlop Challenger on the front but when the rear needs to be replaced I will put D404's front and back.
