Just installed a new front tire on the Xj a couple days ago and decided to try Dyna Beads to balance it this time. I've heard great reviews about using them in bike tires (we use them in out truck tires where I work) so I wanted to give'm a try.
They work great! I found a dealer (Shade Tree Motor Sports)that sells them about 25 miles away so I rode down there and picked some up. My tires call for 1 oz. in the front tire and 2 oz. in the rear tire. Being my rear tire is about wore out, I'm going to wait to do that until I put a new one on.
But just using the Dyna Beads in the front worked out very well. Took it up to 85 mph and it's smooth as glass. So I guess they work as advertised.

It was cheaper than taking the wheel to a shop and getting the tire mounted and balanced, so it worked out better doing it myself. PD

Say what you want about them. I know they do work and thier use is growing as we speak. When a large trucking company is using them when mounting all their new tires, that's all I need to know about how well they work.

I'm happy with my Dyna Beads as well. Like PainterD, my front tire is smooth as glass with the "snake oil" in there!

    Don't oil your front tire!!!
    That's dangerous.

OK, I confess. I oiled mine this weekend but that was because I tried to roll it backwards with the oil drain pan under the engine.

Can someone with Dyna-Beads put their bike on the mainstand and (safely) run the bike thru the gears to about 5,000 and tell us how smooth it is ??

How are these at slow speeds? I mean, theoretically they should only work when a tire is rotating at a high speed.

What I'm trying to get at is a truck is jerky (shifting) and has 18 wheels on the ground at low speeds. If the tires aren't balanced at low speeds the trucker won't mind- besides, they do long hauls and are most likely going to be at speed most of the time.

A bike accelerating from stop with an unbalanced wheel is going to have a more profound effect on the ride then a truck. It's my understanding that if your wheel is unbalanced you will feel it even at these low speeds where the beads might not be doing their job.

So I can understand it working for a truck with 18 wheels and lots of 'play' but on a motorcycle with two wheels - I don't know...

    Edit: Take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skY6qvzp ... re=related

Definitely not snake oil but you can see the tire still shaking at low speeds...

I did a brief stint in a industrial tire shop and we used the dynabeads in the semi tires and had no complaints. I don't think compare the youtube vid to the dynabeads. They are small and light so I would think that they would disperse even at low speeds. They have been using this idea for years to deal with changing balance or harmonics in engines.

Keep in mind the caveat - consider the source. It's a site that's trying to sell you on their static balancers.... (among other very nice things)

When Igot new tires on my truck (6 axle dump truck) they just threw a plastic bag of Dyna Beads inside the tire before puttingit ont he rim. He told me it would probably bounce a bit until thebag broke open and the beads dispersed around the inside of the tire.
When I took off down the road, going thru the gears and picking up speed, I didn't notice any bouncing, and by the time I got out on the intersate, the steering axle was smooth as silk and still is to this day. Even at slow speeds, it's smooth with no front end hop or vibration. Once the Beads are dispersed inside the tire, they seem to work at all speeds. The same with my front bike tire too.
You can looks at theory and conjecture all you want, all I know is they work very well. I won't use rim weights ever again on my vehicles.

I've heard of this concept from a trucking friend and he says they work. I was able to come up with this on youtube and though it's centramatic & not dyna beads, It seems to be the exact same principle. They use strobe lights to stop the balls & it's pretty convincing.

    YMMV

I did 6-7 year in a industrial tyre shop and we didn't use dynabeads in the semi tires and had no complaints.

I was only giving a good review for Dyna Beads, not asking opinions on how to balance tires. I used to balance my tires using lead weights for years and didn't have a problem with them. And now I don't have to mess with them anymore with the Dyna Beads, is all I tried to point out. Not looking for a debate.

I am a truck driver when you see a truck jerking through the gears it's the dumber than a box of rocks driver that does not know how to drive he is driving the truck like he is still in his car. You ease in to each shift not stand on the throttle with each shift. that's the difference between old school driver and new school driver. Don't put us all in the same box LOL

If dyna beads are so great then why don't they sell them to all the cagers? I have bought at least 5-6 sets of tires in the past 4 years at different shops and no one has ever asked if I wanted them in my car tires.
