A while ago, I got a pair of nice green coils from Chacal, and thought I'd experiment with an alternate mounting than the one Chacal provides.
It still requires the flasher relay mount to be removed, but it does not offset the coils in any way.

I did a test fit yesterday, and found out that the original machine screws are too long. Note that I have not yet tried this with the tank on, the test fitting just did not get that far yesterday.

What you need is as follows:

    - Copper or steel sheet to cut the brackets from
    - Metal sheet cutter or similar cutting tool
    - (2) 5cm x 5 (or 6) mm machine screws with nuts
    - 4 locking washers, and 4 plate washers
    - (4) 2cm x 6 mm machine screws with nuts
    - 8 locking washers, and 8 plate washers
    - Drill and 6 (or 7) mm HSS bits

What you do is cut 4 strips of 1,5 x 6 cm from the metal plate, and drill out three holes at 0,5 cm, 3 cm, and 5,5 cm.
Then bend the plates at 1,5cm and 4,5 cm to make a C-bracket, and mount these on the holes that the original screws were - holes oriented vertically.

The test brackets here are of thin copper to ease bending and drilling. Tomorrow, I'll post some updates.

Then mount the coils on the brackets using the shorter screws.

You will still need to fabricate a mount for the flasher relay. The plan is to make another bracket that mounts in the forward screw hole of the coils.

After trying to mount the coils yesterday, the inventory list needs to be modified to

    - (2) 6cm x 5 (or 6) mm machine screws with nuts

The screws that hold the c-bracket to the frame was to short to hold all the washers and the home-made bracket for the flasher relay. One more cm should do the trick.

The tank mounts fine on top of the coils. After being mounted, they were bent slightly "inwards".
