A guy at work is selling a 2002 honda shadow 1100 with 1500 miles and aftermarkets pipes for $1800. I guess the thing is spotless and elderly owned and the only problem is gummed up carbs from sitting for a couple years, very easy fix.
Looking on Ebay and around the net, i'm seeing bikes like this go for $5000-$6000. Should i buy it and turn around to resell it for some easy cash? Almost seems dumb not to.

There has got to be something else wrong. That price is unreal. Even if I didn't have $1800 I would take out a loan and re-sell it. Even without doing anything to it you should be able to get $3-$4 grand for it.

Be wary of a scam. Selling less than market is a tip off. If it is a non-running unit, the price seems right.

    Something ain't right.
Maybe the Seller isn't a "Bike Guy" and doesn't know the real value.

"Never look a gift horse in the mouth" ... the old saying is!

Trouble is ... it ain't a horse. It's a Honda. If it needs Shift Forks or other transmission work ... the resale opportunity during "The Season" isn't good.

If it comes with NO Title ... you're out good money for a dead horse.

If it's lagit, I would jump on it. I have a 1100 Shadow and they are bullet proof. I have 44,444 miles on mine and it purrs like a cat and goes like a raped ape with two up and all our gear for trips. If I had the money I'd buy another one to chop. >PD<

Be sure to check the title. If it's "rebuilt" or "previous damage" or anything of the sort, then it may be worth the $1800, but that's pretty much top dollar, and that's if it's back together looking/running pretty much perfectly.

If you haven't already done so, BUY IT! On a side note, reminds me of the old urban myth that goes something like this:

This guy tells you that a friend of his sees a classified ad for a 1964 Plymouth, good condition, garage kept, $2000.00. Well, he calls the seller and it's an elderly lady and she explains it was her husbands car, who had just recently passed away and she wants it out of the garage because it reminds her of her husband.

The friends friend goes out to look at the car and, lo and behold, it's a '64 Belvedere Hemi with only 75,000 miles. Of course he goes to the bank to get the cash (Musta forgot the checkbook at home) and when he returns he finds that it had already been sold.

The moral of the story? BUY THE BIKE!

two things, already assuming its legit ie good title no engine damage, he might have come up with the $1800 figure because a M/C dealer offered him $1000-$1500 for his non-running bike which would be about right, second be wary of what bikes "go for" on ebay, im thinking you may have seen some guys on ebay with 5-6 y/o shadows that were asking $5k-$6K but i think realistically what their probably getting, when the do sell, is about $3K-$4K, and yeah some people do pay too much for their bikes.... JMHO....
