I'm taking my 82 Seca750 tank, fenders and side panels to my painter this weekend to have painted. I have ordered new emblems to put on after the it is all painted.

Now my question is, what is the best way to locate the postion of where the emblems go after the bike parts are painted. They are all put on with adhesive on this model, so there are no screws to use as locators. I took the side panels to work with me and I photocopied them at lifesize, I figured I could use that as a guide for them after. But the tank emblems are a different animal all together. So any tips would be much appreciated.

Get yourself some heavy paper (poster paper maybe) and cut it int strips.

Run a strip down the centerline of the tank and cut the ends to the tank seams. Tape down.

Now run two strips crosswise butting the front and rear of the emblems. Again cut at the seams and tape down. Tape to the centerline strip.

Now you can add strips under and above the emblems. You now have a template.

Fill in extra strips to make your template more sturdy.

When you get the tank back you should be able to tape the ends of the strips to the backside of the tank (protecting the new paint) and locate the emblems.

Thank you, that makes sense. I can't wait to see my bike all back together. I'll post pictures once it is done.
