    Hey all,
I have just been looking around on ebay and I came across these.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/380630640994?va ... 1438.l2649

Has anyone bought one of these lately or do you know anything about them? Maybe some pics of yourself wearing one? I'm just wondering what they look like atop an actual person. Thanks

    here is a pic!!!!

They don't do shit when you need them to work.

    Seriously.

While finish, paint and/or graphics can contribute to the choice, the main reason to buy a helmet is to protect one's head in a crash; and should not be based solely on how it looks.

That helmet is basically useless; I wouldn't recommend it.

It's your head, nothing but a full face for me. Those yellow areas on k-moe's pic are why i still have a face and not a bunch of scars or worse.

Dont get me wrong, I know that a full face is safer, and for years that is all I would wear, but then I decided to try a half helmet one day and loved it. I was just wondering what this helmet would look like. I might just buy it anyway and keep it for a spare if I don't like it.

It's $34 USD with the goggles.

So what we have there is a $20 helmet, if that.

If you insist on a half-helmet, you might want to look around a bit for a slightly higher-quality product:

Thats an old pic BF and a NSW cop at that, trying to remember but I think our coppers generally wear the Full face helmets where the chinpiece comes up as well.
But for some unknown reason they STILL wear jodhpurs.

Open helmets stayed in police use for a long time because it's considered important for the public to be able to see the cop as a human as opposed to a faceless drone. Safer for cops that way.

AFAIK, a lot of places are switching to modular helmets for police. That way they can not only show their faces, but also keep them if they crash. In fact, I've heard some of my overseas friends call helmets with flip-up chinbars "police-style".

I'm pretty sure it's at least partially because tall shiny boots look rather spiffy.

I own a full and half helmet
when it is hot out I like the half
when it is colder or "buggy" I go with
    the full face
as long as they are DOT
and you accept the risks of not having a full
    face helmet
    I love it

but I also love the full face in cooler weather

Yes, they are using them here in the UK & actually it was an experience chatting to a m/c traffic officer, coupled with a windy day that made me get one myself. So much easier going to fill up the bike & not have to find somewhere not soaked with diesel to put the helmet down & not worrying about it blowing off the mirror stem & smashing onto the floor! Plus I can finish my cigarette as I make my way from home to the main road :D

I think thats the only advantage of actually having a modular helmet. You can smoke while riding :p

I don't think Half helmets are too smart of a thing. I've atually seen a dude who crashed with a half helmet. Slow crash, but man he was bleeding up a puddle on the ground. Much worse than it shoulda been.

As a pipe smoker, I can tell you that's NOT possible for me. However, I use it as an reason to take a break!
