My xj550 seca runs great except for there is an electrical issue. It randomly just shuts off it says there is more power than there is on the battery gauge. Therefore there must be a short somewhere right? What do you think?

Please let me in on your opinions or ideas that could fix this.

    Cheers,
    Luke

The best way to find a fault is to pull ALL the connectors, then re-connect them one at a time until the fault shows, then you have narrowed it to one circuit / part.

Random shut off could be ignition switch, kill switch, sidestand switch, connector plugs, dry solder joints in the TCI.

As wizard says, pull and inspect all connectors first.

    Seca 550?

The sidestand switch is at the top of the list because of its location. The connectors for that switch are buried and not likely the problem; the switch itself is. If the switch is failing, every time you go over a bump the bike will think the stand is down, and since you're in gear, shut off the bike.

    Start there.

If that's not it, then the rest of the list as above applies; except if it were the ignition switch itself the voltmeter would drop.
