My engine is back together and it actually runs!!!

I did a complete tear down to swap cases after a PO hydrolocked it and blew a rod out the front.
I honed the cylinders and ended up using "experienced" rings that were very close to the new spec.

I decided to do some research about break-in process since everyone seems to have a different opinion.

I found a couple great articles that explain the process and what is happening for those of you interested.

I put three runs in this afternoon and can't get the smile off my face. I can't wait until the process is done and I can see what it will really do.
It's also very nice to hear the "sewing machine" tapping of my well adjusted valves.

If "experienced" rings means used, I dont think you need to worry about "breaking it in" You may not get the results you would as if you installed new rings.

That is true, the rings do not have the tapered edge, but the cylinder honing still needs to be smoothed off and set it to match the rings.
Before I started the process, my compression was at 140-143 psi and for the first 20 miles she was a smoker.
After about 100 miles of break in effort and an oil change (which had a lot of metal shavings) I'm getting nice compression readings.

By the end of the weekend I hope to be able to really see how she will do.
