engine gasket sets xj650j

can anyone tell me if a complete engine gasket set for a 1982 xj650 seca will work on a 1982 xj650j? i realize that since the seca is turbocharged there will be additional gaskets that i won't need, but wouldn't the head, cylinder, and case gaskets and O ring seals be the same? i can get a set of gaskets that are application specific, but the seca set i can get is $100 less. i don't care about the extra gaskets. nor do i really need the valvecover gasket as the one on the engine i am working on only has about an hour of run time on it since it was installed new. i really can't think of any reason why the seca set wouldn't work, and i could sure use the $100 i would save on something else.

 

The Turbo Seca came out in '83. The gasket set you are refrencing is for the standard xj650 Seca. They gasket sets fit all of the XJ650 engines.

The XJ650 Turbo gasket set will NOT work with a regular XJ650 Maxim......most of the major gaskets are different (from the valvecover on down), including the valvecover, cylinder head, and cylinder base gaskets. The turbo engine and gasket kits are an animal unto themselves........

Even the XJ650RJ Seca gasket set won't be correct for a 1982 XJ650 Maxim (which has a YICS engine)......again, valvecover and cylinder head gaskets, etc. are different (it's the difference between YICS and non-YICS engines, and, before you "go there", yes even though the Turbo engine is a YICS engine, the major gaskets on the Turbo engine are still different from the garden-variety 650cc yics engines......
