Does anyone out there have any close up pics of their engine guards? I would like to try to build a set for my '82 Maxim 550. If not does enyone know where I might get a set? New / Used it doesn't matter.

    Thanks,
    Bob

If your bike looks like mine I'd be happy to post close up pics. Here is one shot of my bike. Do you want close pics of the guards?

I'd check Ebay and local bike salvage yards. I'm sure there are some around NY.

My bike has the same size as SnoSherrif, but mine does not have the extra reinforcement bar his has. I will take a picture this evening and post it here.

Yeah, you don't want the ones for the X and you DO want the three point guards. The two point guards can fold in a crash, damaging the cases they are supposed to protect.

I crash tested my three point guards at a track day a few months ago and they held up well.

Here is a picture of my 2-point engine guards.

    Hope this helps.

SnoSherrif, I'd be interested in a close-up of your 3-point engine guards. I'm wondering where the 3rd point bolts up to.

A note of caution for anyone with the two-point guards -- if you have a drop at speed, they may do as much damage as they prevent! 8O DAMHIKT
Get the 3-point ones as soon as you can -- you won't be sorry.

I assume that you could also mount some highway pegs to these guards?? Anyone have that out there?? Thanks.

You are correct. I tried them on my bike but with my straight handle bars the ride wasn't comfy for me.

I ran them when I was living in San Diego and running all over heaven's creation but I dumped them when I settled into around town driving. I'll chime in on the three point mounts, much stronger, won't fold over like the two points.

The three points would obviously be stronger.

I have the two points and I have highway pegs on them. I have them tightened as much as I can go. If I put enough pressure on them, they will rotate AND/OR push the crash gaurd around...

I had the 2 pointers on My 82 XJ 750 Max and I could bend them with my feet on the highway pegs if I put to much pressure on them. They were nice to have on long trips but would have been a lot better with the sturdier mounting of the 3 point set up. I'll be looking into a set for the little 550.
