    Hi all

Just picked up a 600 engine for the 550 project which I hope to start in the next few weeks. Serial number is 1UJ-004621. Can anyone tell the year/bike this is from ? I was told it came off a XJ600 but I'n not sure it wasn't a Radian..

    Cheers

According to Wikipedia, 1UJ is for a Radian, but I'm not positive on the exact year.

That is indeed a Radian motor, 1UJ for the YX600S; 1UL for the "California" spec YX600SC. The actual model year isn't all that important, and can probably be calculated from the serial number. All 1UJ's are gonna be essentially the same regardless of what color they came in.

It really doesn't matter, PHYSICALLY, as in motor mounting, etc.; whether it came from an XJ, FJ or a YX. The Radian used the 550 Maxim frame. It will bolt up.

Your potential pitfalls would be carbs, ignition, and the good possibility that the charging system is of a completely different design.

Ah - 'b*gger' ! I mean thanks for the info..

I presume that the XJ/FJ 600 would be a better choice for the swap then ? or is it likely (just) a case of changing electrical connections either way ?

Luckily I only gave 50 quid for it ( +30 for some carbs of uncertain vintage..48mm at bell mouth and 32mm 'output' )..

    Cheers

PS Any idea what the leading three characters of an XJ/FJ600 engine should be ?

    OK update.

I learn from the mighty web that the Radian used 30mm carbs and not 32mm as the man 'kindly' sold me which I guess means the intake rubbers will be all wrong. Hmm

NO matter another (600) engine is on the bay right now and only 50 mile away the guy says the serial number is 510-052036 but I'm not sure that sounds right either..

Have also found Radian wiring diag that I will compare with the 550 when I get home..

    What larks eh ?

    Hi Stu

Thanks - 51J seems most likely - if it goes for not much money I can have a stab at making one from two I reckon..

    Cheers
