So... last year I had some fun. While making my way down the highway my engine failed and started smoking. I managed to nurse it over to the right side of the highway despite rush hour traffic... thankfully. I get it to the side of the road and I find a giant hole just below the exhaust on my engine.

I had a spare parts bike so I swapped out the engine only to find out it was seized.

So... I'd like some suggestions about my next course of action

    1) Attempt to unseize the engine. Success is doubtful considering the amount of water that came out with the oil when I emptied it.

    2) Frankenstein something together between the two engines.

    3) Buy a new engine.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Being that you have a 550, you're limited to the chain-drive engine.......

Tear down both engines, swap internals from good engine into the cases from the siezed one. Keep the good top end. This is what a parts bike is for.

    There is no "good" one.

One is seized, the other blew up big time.

I'd look for another motor; it would be the least expensive and probably only alternative since both motors have obvious bottom-end issues.

Didn't read that, OP only stated that he has a hole in the engine that was most recently running. Could be from road debris, in which case it may be salvageable, or it could be a thrown rod in which case yeah, it's all-new engine time.
First things first, establish what you know to be true; is the first engine damaged internally, or is it just the case?

Highly unlikely it was road debris.

True, but not impossible. My nephew has an R6 that snapped its final drive chain and holed the case. Sadly, I had warned him his chain was too tight when he first showed it to me. Oh well, young and dumb as they say.
My point being, be certain the engine is wrecked before tossing it aside.

Yeah... Very much blown out. Have a picture of it but the forum was mad that it was to big. Thrown rod sends likely. So... New engine it is.

I don't want to give up on it but it may have reached that point. Maybe I can resell all the extra stuff I put on it.

Or check around at local salvage yards. Good luck, sorry your engine is wrecked.
