I hope this is the correct forum for my question! Has anyone built an engine stand for their motors? I want to do a lot of detail on an engine and want some ideas. Have you seen any write ups or pictures on stands that you could direct me to? Thanks in advance. I am new to the forum and will tell you more about myself when time allows. It seems you have some very talented members that I look forward to picking their brain. Later, Gene

It would be cool to add a little wire harness and a gas tank.
And room for the exhaust, complete.
    Then it's a test stand.

Welcome to the site Gene !!

A complete test stand would be nice. What I'm really looking for is a way to mount the engine and turn it in different positions for detail work. Its hard to believe someone hasn't already done this. Something maybe that could be mounted in an auto engine stand so it can be rotated to different positions. I'll probably have to figure something out on my own. Gene

Gene, great idea. I don't have experience with what you are doing either but post some pics or drawings as you go. Maybe we can make suggestions to help you get to the finished product.
    Gregg,
Welcome to the site by the way.

I would weld up some mild steel in a way that can be bolted to the engine as well as an automotive engine stand

may i suggest hanging it off rafters with ratcheting straps... or using a car motor lift and hanging it in the air

Car engine stands are fully adjustable, so you would just need some long bolts, and figure the center of gravity, which is close to the centerline of the alternator, a little closer to the crank, then bolt it up.

Now someone post-up that YouTube clip of Alive running his engine on a workbench.
