symptom - difficulty cold starting - once going cylinders 3 or 4 ( think 4 since pipe cooler ) kick in after a few minutes - slow fire at first then speeding up - increasing rpm's during this warm up period will make them kick in ( above 2,000 RPM ) - lots of fuel - been riding bike with no other problems daily - medicine - compression ok, valve clearances ok, rubber intake boots not leaking - plugs are good colour across all cylinders - my YICS tool worked properly ( no melting of rubber hoses ) just did sync with 4 cylinder motion - pro tool - needed to adjust 3 and 4 more than 1 and 2 - starting very well but still hot - just got back from ride definite increase in performance - much smoother - finally to the question ? - can I expect my cold starting problem to be solved ? Has anyone had the same or similar symptoms and found this to be the solution - can wait until it cools down to find out but too impatient lol

    FLOAT LEVELS.

    The tolerance is +/- 1mm.

Or something is still plugged up... You are cold starting on nearly full "choke" with NO throttle?

Check inside the plug caps to be sure the resistor cores aren't coming loose. There are screwdriver slots on either side of the hole for the top of the plug; gently ensure they're not loose.

Make sure the plug caps are all tight on the wires.

Make sure the little rubber booties on the vacuum ports are all soft and pliable.

Try putting the petcock in PRI for about 30 sec or so before starting; fire the bike and then return it to ON. If this helps it brings us back to---

    Float Levels.

full choke - no throttle unless problems starting - then I try all kinds of things lol - just removed caps - number 4 insulator damaged on back side closest to engine fell apart when I removed rubber seal - guess what ? - number 3 screw was loose lol - where did you learn this stuff - anything else ? starting to cool down now but not yet

Did you work for NASA ? They certainly could have used you to help them solve the moon mission problems - I'm not worthy

pet cock on prime everytime - noticed a problem with it when syncing - being on prime or on makes no difference - engine runs on carb bowels then starves for gas - made setting carbs a little more difficult - my quick hands taking on and off hoses and adjust screws did the trick - need to investigate fuel cock issue later

float levels adjusted when carbs cleaned and rebuilt - wouldn't plug colours differ ? the air to fuel mixture - maybe not if once warm the plugs get re-coated to proper colour - just shooting from the hip - thinking out loud lol

just wrapped black electrical tape a couple of times around number 4 cap then put rubber boot back on - will replace later but this should keep the moisure out if I get caught in a storm

plus 5 F - engine cold - full choke - started right up - rpm high - quickly reduced choke to 1/2 or 5/8 running great - carbs in syc for sure - recommend carb syc - huge improvement - another job well done - thanks

bike sat for a full week - full choke - starts right up - slowly close choke as rpm climbs - number 3 spark plug cap tightening and carb sync did the trick -on to the tires, front brake caliper shim, right exhaust replacement, original decals then full cleaning and polishing are next on the to do list.
