While cleaning my extra mikuni bs30 rack today, I noticed that the brass tube was cracked that feeds the enrichment circuit on carb number 4. When I shoot carb cleaner down the inlet it sprays from the crack and the bottom hole.

I’m guessing that this carb would receive extra fuel when the bike is “choked”. What do you guys think?

I’m trying to get this rack dialed in for my other bike. If it’s going to be unreliable I may just buy another #4 carb.

Just wanted to double check before I do anything rash.

Yes, it probably would, but it would just make that one cylinder a little richer when the choke is on.........which typically isn't for long.

@chacal is right, but I would just solder it up.

    Thank you both.

I never thought of soldering it. I have a bit of experience with plumbing and some wiring soldering, so I know the basics.

Maybe I’ll try it with the crack and fix it if I need to. I’m pretty good at swapping the carb rack now, so the job isn’t as daunting as before :)

    Thanks again guys!

I might be afraid of the solder wicking into the main channel and clogging it up. I think you will need to be careful there. Not too much and don't let it keep sucking in. There is a jet in the bowl is there not? even if there is a crack there will it not still be regulated by that one jet for how much flow?

That’s a good point melnic. There is a jet in the bowl that restricts flow.

I was also concerned that soldering could plug the tube up.

I think I may have left this carb in the ultrasonic cleaner too long AND used too strong of a cleaning solution. All my brass looks brand new which may not be a good thing..

Hopefully the carb works well. If not I may charge this off as an educational expense :)

Solder it, carefully, remove excess solder from outside of the tube. Should be good to go.

Chacal made a good assessment, leave it be and use it as is.

Soldering is all about heat management, the solder runs towards the heat. So keep the heat on the cracked side, don't use too much, slowly slowly.
