I was reading the xj4ever's catalog and it stated that I would be able to use the hitachi hsc32 on my '85 XJ700. That is because of the intake manifolds for the hsc33 are no longer available. What exactly would I need to do to make it work with my bike? Unfortunately, I broke a float pillar on my #4 carb yesterday. Thanks guys.

Check Ebay for intake manifolds. I've seen them. Probably a lot less expensive than a set of new carbs. I have the same bike as yours, so maybe I'll pick up a set of manifolds just in case. If you already have the hsc32 and broke a float pillar, look for the thread posted earlier that shows a welded repair.

Unfortunately, the one I broke was on the hsc33. I am planning on doing that JB Weld trick, but was planning on getting hsc32 for a winter project and need new manifolds. I will look on ebay but most of them are already cracked.

:? You can mend the cracks on used inlet manifolds, with silicone sealant. Use RGV black, or clear. It does work. (you must be 'thorough' tho', and 'stipple' the sealant into the cracks, whilst holding and bending the inlet cracks 'open', which simulates an 'extreme' expansion when intake has got hot and expanded, once up to operating+ temperature.....!) Then let dry for 24 hours, and check AGAIN. - you WILL find parts you missed.....and seal AGAIN.....I've just done it on my Seca650.......Thread somewhere on this site proved this method works, cos it cured their vacuum leaks with high idling.....but cant remember which one...!?
Someone also added innertube tyre sections over theirs, (after sealing cracks with silicone) for an even greater seal(?), and a more clean cosmetic result, of course.
    GOOD LUCK! :)

Yeah, I know all about that. I have an opportunity to pick up a set of HSC32 carbs for a low price and was just wondering what needs to be done. I wasn't sure if I needed to change jets or the airbox boots. Just curious before I purchase a set of HSC32's. I was going to do that JB Weld thing with mine, but I heard I would have to do that almost every year, and I don't want to be using the same temp fix all the time. I am planning on JB Welding it for the rest of this year, that way I can at least ride it.
