Got me a 1989 xj600 pre diversion with a rusted out motad 4-1, and was thinking of putting it back to 4-2.
I can get the chrome down pipes but there are no collector box or pipes to conect both sides together. Could i either make some pipes up to conect straight to the silencer or does anyone have any idea if the silencers and collector box from a diversion fit, possibly with slight mods if nessesary.

Also out of interest why on 4-2 do the exhausts connect to each other.

    thanks

I would think you can go to an automotive muffler shop and get 1-1/4" (or whatever size the header pipes are) 2-into-1 collector for each side (Y shaped) and have the ends bent slightly (bottom of the Y) to mount the mufflers to so they clear the frame.
That's what I'm going to do if my collector box rusts out. I think it will sound better too!!! >PD<

    UPDATE, might intrest someone

Thought i would take a chance when i saw a full chrome motad 4-1 system on ebay, the chance was it was for a GS650. Check all i could and looked like the silencer might fit with little or no mods, it looked good and for £50 it was worth a punt.
It turned up today and it is brand new, never been near a bike, silencer looks like it will be a straight fit and the XJ down pipes fit perfect, just a hanger bracket to make and that will bolt staight onto silencer, after a quick comparison the chrome down pipes look very close to the XJ's in shape and size, but will try them as soon as i get the motor back in the bike.
