    Hello,

I put my exhaust system back on, I failed to notice (I do this a lot...) if the bolt-on clamps go flush to the engine block, or if they 'float' about 1/4" from the block. I can't get any of the fours to go flush, I am not going to force the nuts any more!

    Thanks Guys

    Stock exhaust, or Aftermarket?

Stock, and likely most aftermarket systems have a split collar that actually pushes the exhaust pipe into the engine. The clamp pushes on that collar and IS NOT FLUSH with the engine.

DO NOT FORCE THE NUTS ON THE EXHAUST STUDS!!!!! That's a great way to break a stud off in the head, and open up a BIG can of worms.

Check your torque specs for exhaust flange nuts (you do have a manual right?). IIRC, it's something like 8ft-lbs <- which is a LIGHT kiss on the end of a wrench!

    Cool, thanks ManBot!

I can't get my torque wrench in there, so all I used was a 9mm box wrench, I doubt I put too much pressure on the nut.

It's a stock exhaust, BTW. All shiny and collector box sanded and painted. Hoping to ride today it's 82F in NH, OMG!

    NOT FLUSH.

And not super tight. Use a 1/4" drive socket and a long 1/4" drive extension to "sneak past" the pipes so you can use your torque wrench.

Yes, I'm going to try and get a large extension for my socket set today, I'll re-torque once I can!

    Thanks!
