Hello I'm new to this site. I'm glad to have found a forum for XJ enthusiasts

I bought a Yamaha Maxim 1100 last month with the intentions of ratting it out. I was thinking about doing a 4 into 1 exhaust but cant seem to find one anywhere, at least for an 1100. Which leads to my first question.

I've seen plenty of 4 into 1's in my local bike wrecking yard but all of them have been found on 650's and 750's. Are the pipes a different diameter and/or fit on the 1100's?

Also I've been looking at CB900's for my uncle who intends to do a rat project as well. I saw many 900's with 4 into 4 pipes. I fell in love with the idea instantly. Would a CB900 pipe fit on a maxim 1100? It looks like it would fit but I need to know for sure before I buy one.

My last question has to do with exhaust pipe sound. What is the sound difference between 4 into 4 vs 4 into 1. I assume the 4 into 1 will have more of a smooth growling sound and the 4 into 4 will have more of an individual popping (v-twin) kind of cruiser sound. Am I right on this?

Attached is a pic of what I hope the bike will look like when im done.

ok, so cb750=cb900 on exhaust options, at least the DOHC, cb750's are more plentyful, thus cheaper exhaust, now about the compatability, I high doubt they will fit, though if you're going for rat, than you could cut about the first 6 inches off of your xj1100 exhaust, and cut some off of the cb750 or 900 exhaust, weld the xj1100 parts onto the cb exhaust and make it work, you will have to deal with mounting points and so on, it wont bolt on.

the 4 into 4's are really quiet, at least if you leave the cb exhaust stock, you wont hardly hear it running.
