so... my stock exhaust has about a thousand holes in the muffler secton, and everything inside of the left muffler isnt attached to anything.. im assuming its whats causing popping after i close the throttle because running rich seems like it doesnt change anything. the pipes leading to the muffler are fine though. ive obtained mufflers from a friend from a yamaha 1100 bike (model# 5YS1)... how much modification do you think ill have to go through to get these properly working on my xj650?

Some cutting, probably a sleeve/adapter situation; I suspect the 1100 pipes will be a tad bigger in diameter than those on the 650.

On both bikes, the original pipes were welded to the collector/one headpipe, so making it into a "bolt-up" will require a bit of doing.

If you're lucky, you can leave enough of a "stub" on the original exhaust for it to fit inside the (assumed to be) bigger mufflers off the 1100. If it turns out they're the same or close to the same, then some fabrication and ingenuity may be required.

Are you just looking for a left muffler? Or are your head pipes bad also?

the head pipes are fine... both of the stock mufflers are in really rough shape.. these ones from the 1100 are basically brand new!

but basically... if i slice these up and put them on... they should work just fine?? or am i going to have to re-tune everything?

Should be fine as long as the stock baffles are intact on the ones you put on, and are not just staright through.

Ill trade a pretty nice 650 LH muff for the pair of those 1100 muffs
