Just at the end of carb cleaning I was considering leaving the pilot screws alone. The carbs turned out to be pretty clean so I was leary about drilling out the caps. Finally just did it and my settings were as follows:
    #1 about 2 and 3/4 out
    #2 exactly 2
    #3 exactly 1
    #4 exactly 1 also

That seems way off the wall to me. I know the adjustments were never touched. Would that be a possible factory set up ? Could vibration move those that much? It is especially odd that three of the four were exactly at a revolution.. I am wondering wether to set them back the way they were or set all of them at something like 2 1/2 out. ??

It would be helpful if you updated your signature to show bike model and year.

Mixture settings all over the place are not unusual. I'd put them back where they were and start tuning from there.

Your post implies that you cleaned the carburetors with the mixture screws in. If so, you can't be sure they're clean. Also, there is potential for the cleaner to damage the o-rings if the screws are in.

Why were you cleaning the carbs in the first place?

Remember that the factory used a exhaust gas meter to set those carbs originally. I wouldn't worry too much. Check your plugs or get a color tune plugs and see what it looks like. Set so your plugs are a nice tan.

sorry , the bike is 1981 750 seca. I bought it from the origonal owner who let it sit for about four years. I got it running after changing the fluids and a battery but not well. So I swapped the carb from my other seca and it ran fine so that is why I am cleaning the carbs. They were not bad as I stated which is why I considered leaving the pilots alone. After removing them (which came out with no trouble) I did re-clean the bodies. I am putting them back together now. I noticed in a previous post that someone did thiers in one morning. I know I have ten hours in mine.... and I am just getting started with assembly.

You get better at at it as you do it more, but there is no need to rush. The old adage haste makes waste applies here.

On the 81 I believe the nominal standard position was just under two turns. As I said I'd put them back where they started.

I did a SECAII that I believe had never been touched. Two of the screws were bottomed, don't recall where the others were.
