Hey all, question about final drive gear maintenance.

Basically, what should I be doing for my final drive to keep it in tip-top shape while I wait for my Haynes manual to arrive? The owner's manual I have isn't too helpful on the subject, but it's just the dumbed-down one that comes with XJs.

    Thanks!

Nobody? Damn, it's going to be at least a week before I see the Haynes arrive :(

Hopefully SalCycle has some insight for me on Monday!

Just change the gear oil every year. Use a GL-4 or GL-5 75/80 hypoid gear oil. Drain the oil from the bottom drain plug on the final drive case then fill to the bottom of the threads of the fill hole.

There isn't a whole lot of maintenance to pull on the ass-end.

At the beginning of every season; I just Flush my diff out and let it drip until all previous Hypoid is drained-out.

Then, I put the drain plug in the bottom and fill it with the best Hypoid rated for High-speed that I can find.

Flush and fill Lefty, just like the man said. 80 weight is specified but the 75/80 will work just fine.

Awesome, will pick up some hypoid when I get home and do a flush. I don't know if it's ever been done before.

    Thanks!
