I have noticed this twice so far. I have only had my 81 650 maxim for about a month. The oil has seeped out of the vent on the final drive twice now. The first time I noticed it I washed it off and didn't worry about it. The second time I noticed oil on the rear hub I washed it off and checked the level. I looks to be properly filled to the top of the threads on the filler hole, bike was on center stand. Is this common? It isn't a big deal, just a mess.

Well i had to drain mine and change it. Mine came out the vent and soaked the rear tire, making for a really hairy ride. Be safe not sorry.

Maybe I will look at it again. A large amount coming out would be a unwelcome surprise!

    You're busted!

It commonly happens when you get up to high speed without letting the bike get warmed-up!

With the bike on the Center Stand ... the Fluid Level should be just at the lower lip of the Filler Hole.

I was browsing the forums and found this post. I dont have the overflow problem, but I do have a vent problem. My xj has a silver cap on top of the final drive. I assume it is the vent cap. I had some things on the rear of the seat. Needless to say, the heaviest thing feel off, and hit his cap. Their is, or should I say was, a little alluminum steam under this cap. When my gear feel off the seat, it broke this stem. Is this a big problem?

That makes sense. Oops! Can't help ripping through those gears. About that cap I looked at bikebandit.com and they had a replacement for $8.54 I bought a bunch of parts from them they are great. Dont know how it comes out.
