So I picked up this basket case 83 seca 750 from a buddy of mine. I sold it to him a year or so ago (not running), then got it back.

But when i got it back, its in pieces. He attempted a Bobber build (not a very good one), and its literally a bare frame at this point ($50 is a good deal, specially when i sold it to him for 300$ originally)

Started full disassembly of the rear wheel for powder coat. Gear oil everywhere.

Question is: Should I look into rebuilding the final drive? I am assuming its leaking, cause Im sure there should not be oil all over.

Im building this thing from the bottom up. He had the bike running off ether, but not on its own before he tore it apart.

This aint my first rodeo. But this is my first XJ build. Half tempted to sell it for parts.

I would not assume that the final drive needs to be rebuilt. Most likely it was stored in a way that allowed the gear oil to leak out of the breather.
