Finally got around to installing my new seat cover which I bought probably a year and half ago. Better late than never. Purchase the cover on ebay from this gentleman,

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-XJ55...ver-/321080782672?hash=item4ac1e7ef50&vxp=mtr

    Very happy with the quality!

Here is what I started with:

    seat 1.jpg

I guess the P.O's quick fix for the back tear was to paint the foam to match the seat cover. Maybe I should have just painted the foam under the front right tear and be done with it.
    seat 2.jpg
Scavenged some foam from an old child car seat and tacked it on with upholstery glue to fix a imprefection where the rear split was.

Used a sanding block to shape the foam.
    20150503_152054.jpg
Did the same to fix the right side foam damage.

Looks like a quality repair but where's the pic of the finished product.

Proceed to shape the foam on this much larger repair.

Used a little upholstery glue on the edges to help the stalpes out. You can see form the top view the finished product
Is skewed a bit to the left in the picture (right side of the bike when it s mounted) I will have to gake the back 1/5
or staples off and align it a bit better. But for a first timer I think so far not too bad.

Did a quick mock up to see how it looks. Pretty happy with the results. I still need to mount the passenger strap on,
but want to redo / realign the back end a bit better first.

XJ550H, I am going to presume that it is not. Someone else here can chime in and confirm. However, the guy makes one specifically for a Maxim

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-XJ550-MAXIM-1981-83-Custom-Hand-Made-Motorcycle-Seat-Cover/321108655445?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIC.MBE&ao=1&asc=29905&meid=4075b58958bf4abba1fc30f0e60dc4af&pid=100005&rk=1&rkt=5&sd=321080782672&rt=nc

Please note, that the seat cover I purchased is not an exact replica of the original seat cover. You can see the pleats extend all the way to the sides on the front of the seat. Probably will be more comfortable but I haven't tried it just yet. If you read the description for the Maxim cover it also states it is not an exact replica. So if originality is important to you, find another cover that is an exact match.
