Well i have a to do list on the seca a mile long and the warden ( wife ) has given me the all clear to get greasy . I am pneumonia free and cant wait to get started . first thing on list is petcock and carb rebuild .. don't have a wooden handled hammer but i'm fixin to get one ! my kroil should be here tomorrow so i can soak intake boot bolts and i hope to be riding again in a couple of weeks .
I am sure the tech support folks here in forums will be able to help me along as i know i will have questions . Thank you in advance . new engine guards, rear brakes, fuel system and lines ,re install fairing ,and a good cleaning now that the temp has risen above freezing . Come on spring , think maybe test riding the seca in a short sleeve shirt in 20 degree weather did not help my flu a few weeks back but i just had to ride the old girl around the block !

    Looks like a fun list!

Your valves are already in spec already i'm assuming?

A must do, as if they're not in spec when you're trying to sync your carbs, once you bring them back in spec that can throw off your sync and you'll have to do it all over again.

Replace the valve cover gasket and hold down "donuts" while youre at it to avoid leaks from the cover once you're done.

Dave (hogfiddles) runs a shim pool, and for a deposit, he'll send you the shims you need, and once you swap them out just mail the swapped out shims back to him, and once he receives them he'll send you the deposit back minus 8$ for shipping.

Can't beat it! Just shoot him a PM and tell him i sent ya ;)

Here's Fitz's writeup as i'm sure you've seen, but just in case you havent -

REAL easy, just take your time.

I just use the handle of my rubber mallet vs buying a seperate hammer handle, and has worked flawlessly for me.

Yes i did , spent a great afternoon wrenching in the garage with the warden . Her being a M1- A1 abrams tank mechanic in the gulf war makes her pretty handy when wrenching

The day i removed the carbs i used kroil on my intake bolts , as i am replacing rubber boots and gaskets with new ones . To my supprise today as i went to apply a second treatment i gave one of the bolts a soft turn only to be amazed at how easily it could be removed . I gave a soft turn the day i pulled carbs and they were not budging
A big thank you to the makers of the miracle fluid kroil . . i was really sweating the potential of snapping a bolt off , and it was worth ordering this product on line .

I was able to remove carbs without any kind of pry instrement . the new boots will be a little tougher . Is there something i can use to lubricate new rubber to ease carbs in that will not deteriorate the rubber ?

People have used petroleum jelly to lube RUBBER for decades. Or you could use the KY, whatever floats your boat. 8)

You can also warm the boots before you try to install-that will make them more pliable.

150F will do nicely then let them cool back for minute or two so you can handle them easily.

Today i spent the day fixing p owners blunders . I rewired in factory brake lights , removed bad fuel lines , I finished fuel system re assembled bike and fired it up . She runs pretty good but will need some fine tuning . good to hear her run . The deer came by to give me a hand also
