Finding Frame and motor Serial Number.

I need to provide the frame and motor serial number to receive a copy of the previous owners title. I was just wondering if anyone knew where these numbers were located on the bike.

VIN # will be stamped on the right side of the steering neck and printed on the left side. Engine # is stamped on the right side of the engine above & just behind the clutch cover.

 

Actually, the VIN is (was?) on a sticker on the left side of the steering neck. The frame number is stamped into the right side.

The VIN has some extra info beyond the frame number.

 

And this situation causes problems if you are trying to get a title for a bike that hasn't been registered in many years. I ran into a problem where they had to issue a new VIN using the 17 digit number rather than the 9 digit that is stamped on the neck. It took about 4 trips to the DMV if I recall.

Is it possible to get a new VIN sticker? I don't know about you guys but I can hardly read mine anymore.
