firing order.. help me !

    hello all,
    i have an 81 xj 750 seca. i dont have a manual yet but i was wondering the firing order. if your sitting on the bike. so is it # 1 plug wire on the left side of the bike or is it on the right thx

    The #1 is on the left when seated on the bike. Firing "order" is NOT 1-2-3-4; however since each coil fires a pair of plugs (one cylinder receiving a "wasted" spark each time) the actual firing order isn't as critical as it is on a car, plug-wire wise.

    yep, numbered left to right viewed from the seat. Same is true when talking about carbs.
    it's ok to swap the 1 and 4 wires. Same is true of 2 & 3.
    there is a coil for the inner pair of cylinders and a coil for the outer pair.

    I would think the firing order (power stroke) would be 1-2-4-3
    or some variation (2-4-3-1 etc)

    as 1&4 and 2&3 can't fire in succession.

    I'm thinking it's the same as on a four-cylinder car, or 1-3-4-2 (which alternates coils).
