Well first off its awesome seeing so many people involved in this site and I'm glad I have decided to join.

Seeing as I'm new to this site I haven't learned the proper way to find previous topics created that will answer my questions, so I've decided to just make my first post.

I recently bought myself an 82 Maxim 650 and my father and I are going to make it a father/son project. Basically I'm the funds for the operation and he is the one that implements my ideas, of course I help him and try to learn what he knows. We are going to shoot for the bobber look and I have a few questions:

    1) Since my XJ has the OEM exhaust I was wondering if i could remove the mufflers on each side and replace them with turn down tips. I have seen many bikes on here with strictly cut off pipes but I'm not real keen to that look. Would be it work efficiently to put turn down tips on to keep some back pressure?

    2) Where is the best place to relocate my rear shocks? I want to guarantee that my back has enough support in the suspension to make the ride of the bike still enjoyable.

    3) To correlate along with question #2, I was curious if I could put some 11-12" RFY shocks to replace the plain jane stock ones.

    4) How would I go about extending my swing arm with a SHAFT driven bike?

Those are the first batch of my questions as I am still waiting for all the new parts that I have ordered. Please feel free to reply with links to other topics about these certain issues and with links that have certain parts I might be looking for.

    Thanks for all your help,
    V

    Welcome to the site !!

Your idea of adding turndown tips to the existing collector box is a great way to keep most of your back pressure.

Swingarms have been extended a few times - requires a TALENTED welder and should be shop-balanced (driveshaft shop, phone book)

Click the word "search" near the top of the screen, then enter just a couple words on the topic you want, then select "modification forum"
    That should get you started.
