Went for my very first ride on my very first bike.
put about 100km on it this afternoon.
first 1/2hr around the side streets before i got into any heavy traffic.
I had a blast. The bike is running rich. pulled the brand new sparks and very carboned up. Holding off on the carb work untill riding season is over here, wont be long. I think i will do the valve shim's as well. Saw that bigfitz say's at about 25 000 should be done. my bike has 28 000Km. Stalled out a few times seem to be reving high a bit at stops, about 2000rpm. Still need to build alot more confidence, but having fun.

On 2 wheels... just lost my hat.
stalling is due to being rich... some adjustments and you will be okay there.
the high idle is easy to resolve with the idle screw between the 2 and 3 carbs on the airbox side
adjust it when the bike is fully warmed up

I would run a little sea foam in the tank for a ride or two before you rebuild the carbs to help lossen crud up. Not as a fix but as a tool to make it easier.

think i went for my last ride two days ago. Got up this morning to snow and ice. first riding season sept 14 to oct 10, 600km.
Loved it all. Dont know why i waited so long to get a bike. Tell my wife how much i enjoy riding it every day.
    She's even had it out.
Love this xj .I think that alot of the fun was getting dirty with this bike to get it on the road.
rWould like to thank the people on the forum for helping me out and for the volumes of info in thread search. I realy would have been lost without it.
Planning on turning it into a cafe over the winter but have to check out some noise when riding from the front . not sure if it engine noise, goes away when front brake applied. Could be caliper or something, dont know what i am going to due with out being able to ride it.
