First Start

    Ha

    tryed to start the XJ today after years of sitting
    wants to start it fires every now & then but wont keep going
    Doesnt seem to be getting enough fuil I think
    What must be the first steps are
    Clean tank & carbys??????

    Any pointers would be appreciated

    If it's been sitting a long lime I would pull and clean the carbs. New air filter, new plugs and fresh gas too.

    put the petcock to PRIME to make sure the carb' bowls are full.

    IF it was running just before it was stored then the carb bowls were full of gas and are now covered in varnish and the enrichment circuit is plugged and it will never start or idle cold until you clean the enrichment circuits.
