You no doubt made a strong repair, but have you used ABS Plastic Pipe cement, available at ACE hardware??
It works just like PVC plastic hose irrigation cement, but it melts ABS and hardens just as strong without a catalyst, and might make a less "messy" repair.

What I like about using the thick epoxy, that you won't get with the cement, is the ability to add the stress reducing fillets. The way the posts are designed leaves big stress concentrators with the sharp corners at the base; it is begging for breakage.

but you can get the stress risers....you have to build them up over a little time. then you end up with solid ABS risers that are actually part of the cover as the ABS cement is ABS resin. It will melt into the original and become one with the original.

My experiences with epoxies and fiberglasses is that they will look good and work for awhile but will eventually separate from the plastic again.

    Hopefully yours won't do that.

Glad you have joined us, and thanks for another idea!

I seem to remember this topic being visited before; I also remember when visiting with Robert (he's still around, just extremely busy) that he had been doing side cover repairs; I think he was doing part of it with something called Plastex. Haven't tried it myself, so I don't know how well it works.
