FJ600 Streetfighter project

Hi, I thought I might start my own subject on my FJ600 street fighter project .
Im hoping the pictures will transfer over ok , I will try to give as much info on the progress as it goes .
So far the bike has been totally striped down , frame painted , engine painted and back in the frame ( for a 600 its not exactly a light engine ) a few stainless bolts here and there . The old top yoke now has been replaced with the YX600 Radian one so I can fit better bars ( fits straight on,everthing lines up etc) .Lower fork legs polished , Front wheel metalic black , polished rims etc . Swing arm and links refurbished ( bushes replaced etc) now back in the frame with the rear shock .
Picture below is as I bought it .

 

engine and frame before clean up . We had it running before we started to strip the bike down , sounds quite nice, so no need to take the engine appart, a good external clean and paint up.
The frame was similar, just aged dirt and surface rust, cleaned up nicely ,followed by a nice paint job.

 

Front wheel , before and after . The wheels were painted red , badly , so it had to be striped . Note ... Making good use of the paddock stand as a wheel stand (this came in very handy when painting the wheel).

good start to your fighter. The wheels came up really well.
Gonna be a nice clean example, will be interesting what your gonna do body work wise.

Is it renthal bars then for fighter??

Pity the wheels on these fj/xj s arent that bit wider.

thats looking very good buddy.how do you get your pictures on here that size? mine come up as thumbnails and you have to click on them to make them bigger by goin to photobucket.its a pain in the butt when peeps wana look and have to keep goin backwards n forwards to get a decent view.

cheers mate, yeh picture wise I put them in my paint box and go into image then shrink them .

 

Renthal bars , um no, nice thought, but im gona use a spare pair of XJR 1300 ones I have got in my shed doing nothing , they should look quite nice with the Bandit clocks im fitting ( nice n chrome ) as for wheels, yeh I quite agree, there like moped wheels arn't they , a bit narrow , but im sticking with them as they look soo nice now
Not sure yet on the bodywork , not a priority at the moment .

The rear wheel with new tyre , painted , then uncovering the polished bits, no masking tape required as the rims and spokes were polished first, then washing up liquid smeared carefully on the bits I wanted to keep shiny. When the paint had dried its just a simple job of just scraping off the unwanted painted area's . ( not profesional I know, but it does the job quite nicely ). Which just leaves the lacquer to put on .

 

looking really good, progressing well. Its going to be a very tidy bike.

just quick question on swingarm how did you go about preping it and what paint did you use.

 

Hi, nothing too special just normal cellulose grey primer , followed by Audi aluminium base cote , followed by clear top coat laquer .

 

Yippee , the rear wheel is in and new chain and sprockets fitted .

 

Off the jack and on its own 2 wheels , it's a nice feeling when you get this far .

looking fantastic dude.its cuming up like new in pics.hope its as nice in the flesh.and at the speed its going together,i dont think it will be long till we see the finished article.have you thought of a colour scheme for when its sorted?

 

Well I think I have , maybe black and white( or silver ) with a little bit of red a bit like the FZ750 or just a single metalic colour , mmm , cant make me mind up still on that one, plenty more to do yet though .
The tail piece though, looks to dull to me , maybe try to adapt something to give it a more upswept look . :idea:

 

Can I get some pics and info on the Radian top tree in order to run different bars? Tell me exactly what you did, what year Radian, etc. Thanks!
